- Golden Temple: The greatest attraction of Amritsar is the Sri Harmandir Sahib which is commonly known as Golden Temple was built in 1604 by Guru Arjan Sahib (fifth Sikh guru). It is not only a religious place for Sikhs, it is also a symbol of every human being irrespective of caste, or religion. You can visit it any time of the day. And don't miss the Guru ka langar which is open for all and served at all hours.
- How to get there: From the airport, Golden Temple is around 13 km, you can take a cab from the airport. From the railway station, the distance is around 2.5 km, and auto is easily available from the station. The bus terminal is around 1.4 km distance from Golden Temple, you will get an auto or taxi from there.
- Jallianwala Bagh: Our next destination is Jallianwala Bagh which is close to the Golden Temple. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place on 13th April 1919 which is one of the dark incidents in Indian history where bullet marks are still noticeable.
- Timing for visit: 6:30 am - 7 pm.
- How to reach: It's located in the Golden Temple complex, so you can pay a visit one after another.
- Wagah Border: An army outpost area, located 28km from Amritsar where you can experience the Wagah-Attari retreat between Indian and Pakistani forces. It is the ceremony of closing gates and lowering the flags of India and Pakistan.
- Timing for the retreat: 4:15 pm to 5:00 pm (winter); 5:15 pm to 6:00 pm (summer)
- How to get there: Wagah border is around 35km from Airport via Grand Trunk road, and cab services are easily available. The distance between Golden Temple and Wagah border is approx 35 km, you can take auto or taxi from there.
